ChooseFrom for Microsoft Exchange 2007/2010 |
Exchange mailbox may have multiple SMTP addresses. For outgoing messages Exchange server always uses the primary SMTP address. For example, John Doe has a mailbox with john.doe@companya.com primary SMTP address and john.doe@companyb.com secondary smtp address. John Doe can easily receive the message addressed both to john.doe@companya.com and john.doe@companyb.com, but he can not send the message as john.doe@companyb.com because this behaviour is by design in Exchange server.
ChooseFrom for Microsoft Exchange 2000/2003 application allows users to send a message with any of their own SMTP addresses as the From address.
This version of ChooseFrom is compatible with Sunbelt Ninja antispam/antivirus software.
The application is a transport event sink.
Current version: 1.3.0.2
Benefits
Installation
On your Exchange server computer:
1. Select (or create) a user account that is a member of the local Administrators, Domain Admins and Domain Users security groups.
2. Log on as that user.
3. Create C:\Program Files\ChooseFrom\ directory.
4. Download ChooseFrom-Demo.zip archive file to C:\Program Files\ChooseFrom\ directory and extract all files.
5. Run C:\Program Files\ChooseFrom\regChooseFrom.bat.
Testing
1. Make sure your mailbox has more than one SMTP address. Ask your Exchange admin to add the following additional SMTP address:
john.doe@choosefromdemo.com
to your mailbox.
2. Open Outlook and create a new mail message. Click View->Options and fill "Have replies sent to:" field with
| smtp:john.doe@choosefromdemo.com | ![]() |

ChooseFrom application has been tested with Exchange 2000 SP1/SP2/SP3 on Windows 2000 Advanced Server and with Exchange 2003 SP1/SP2 on Windows Sever 2003.
Limitations
By default users can send as their own SMTP addresses only.
However, it is possible to bypass this limitation by creating a security group named SENDASANYONE and placing there the user accounts you wish to be able to send as anyone.
Side Effects
The main side effect is that you can not exploit Outlook "Have replies sent to:" field as usual. If an outgoing message has the reply-to address filled out, ChooseFrom will set this address as the From: field and the Reply-to: field will be removed completely.
Client-side application that can cooperate with ChooseFrom
There exists an Outlook add-in utility named SmartReply 2007 that allows an Outlook user the ability to easily select the From address of the new, replied or forwarded message.
Uninstallation
1. Run C:\Program Files\ChooseFrom\unRegChooseFrom.bat
2. Delete C:\Program Files\ChooseFrom\ directory.
About this demo version.
ChooseFrom demo version adds ?[ChooseFrom DEMO]? to the Subject line of each message processed.
F.A.Q.
Q. I am running Exchange 5.5. Can I use your ChooseFrom product?
A. You need to install ChooseFrom on a separate Windows 2000/2003/XP machine and forward outgoing mail to the Windows SMTP service on that machine.
Q. I've got the ChooseFrom installation you sent me properly installed, however I can still only use it to send mail from test@demo.com. What's going on? I have tried two of my smtp alias other than this with no success.
A. Right-click on choosefrom.dll, select Properties > Version Tab > see a Product Name item.
It is "ChooseFrom (DEMO VERSION)" for a demo and "ChooseFrom Module" for a commercial release.
Try to uninstal the current version using UnRegChooseFrom.bat. After that delete choosefrom.dll file. Now extract choosefrom.dll from the commercial release of ChooseFrom application (ChooseFrom.zip) and follow the readme file instructions to install it.
Q. I installed your ChooseFrom demo to test and then purchased a fully copy. I ran the unregister batch file you provided and tried to install the new version. Unfortunately, the old choosefrom.dll WON'T uninstall.
I really would rather not restart a mail server for your program's install. Do you have any idea what program(s) I can restart to get this install of the FULL version to work?
A.
From the command prompt, execute
iisreset /restart
Q. I am about to purchase this product but I wondering regarding updates/patches. What are the policies regarding updates? Do you provide them freely or as a purchase?
A. As a registered user, you will get free updates for one year from the date of purchase.
Once the new version is ready, this information will be e-mailed to all registered users. We will send updates via e-mail to those who request them.
Q.
I have already ordered your software and want to view data relating to my order.
